1. Email is sent from a
user on the Internet. The mail server performs a
MX record lookup and sends the email to one of our many
email filtering servers. |
| |
2. Email traverses our
firewall and goes into a filtering server. |
| |
3. Email is scanned for
viruses, spam, malformed headers, and phishing attacks. |
| |
4. If your email
server is unavailable, we will queue your email for up
to one week. |
| |
5. Email is then forwarded
to your email server. |
| |
6. Email once again
traverses our firewall on its way back to you. |
| |
7. Email reaches your
email server. The total process takes about 10
seconds. |
| |
| |
This process protects your
email server from most attacks, while reducing bandwidth
normally wasted by this server if it is unprotected. |
